Home Cures For Genital Acne

It's rare for someone to have acne around the genital area, but it does happen. If you think you have genital acne, you should absolutely see your doctor or dermatologist, if only to rule out the possibility that you have genital herpes or some other sexually transmitted disease. Don't try to pop the pimples, as you will only make the problem worse.

A quick way to get a rough idea is that herpes appear more like blisters often filled with fluids, whereas genital acne appears like small pimples. Hygiene

Typically an antibacterial soap is used to cleanse areas impacted by pimples, but this type of soap can be too harsh for the vaginal area. A mild soap or feminine cleansing product, such as a soap-free and fragrance-free product, can be used instead. Washing the area with warm water can also keep the area from getting infected and allow the pimple to heal.

Warm Compress

Never pick at a pimple, especially in the vaginal area. Picking can lead to scarring, infection and it can help spread the pus from the pimple to the surrounding areas and cause new pimples. A soft cloth, wet with warm to hot water, can be placed over the area to soften the skin. This can reduce pain and may encourage the pimple to pop on its own. The National Institutes of Health suggests that this is a good remedy for pimples that are caused by folliculitis, or an inflammation of the hair follicle.

Epsom Salts

A sitz bath made with Epsom salts can sooth, cleanse and even help dry a pimple in the vaginal area. To prepare this type of bath, run about two to three inches of warm water in a tub and sprinkle one-half to one cup of Epsom salts into the water. Soak in the tub for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse the area thoroughly after the bath and pat it dry.
